In computing, the process of starting up the
computer. Most computers have a small,
built-in program whose only job is to load a
slightly larger program, usually from a disc,
which in turn loads the main operating
system. The term is derived from
mountaineering, where a bootlace might be
used to pull a rope through a difficult
opening.
